14 Feb 2010 : James Luong

A simple enumeration of the bottles that I’ve enjoyed in recent months.

œnology is the science and study of all aspects of wine and winemaking except vine-growing and grape-harvesting, which is a subfield called viticulture.

Sadly they are all rated. Perhaps when I have greater disposable income, i’ll be adventurous enough to buy more that are not.

Bodegas La Cartuja 2007 (2/21)

The deep purple-colored 2007 La Cartuja is 50% Garnacha, 30% Carinena and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

It offers up an enticing nose of roasted minerals, lavender, incense, black cherry, and blueberry. On the palate it has good grip, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish.”  I pretty much agree with RP’s review. It was a reasonably priced table wine that I picked up at WF the other week, and was a great value I think.

Robert Parker: 90 Points.

Marquis Philips Sarah’s Blend 2007 (2/14)

A blend of 62% Shiraz, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc.

Super ripe plum jam with dark chocolate richness, black currant and briar fruit on the nose. Soft, round and gentle with aromas of marzipan, complex black currant fruit, and hints of peppermint and smoky sweet vanilla. On the palate, ripe red berries, vibrant, soft and round, gentle medium bodied structure and black fruit are found. Long, integrated tannins and some oak lactone influence also exist.

Robert Parker: 90 Points

Bogle Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 (1/30)

Overwhelming cherry and vivid plums create a welcome first impression, while touches of green tea leaves and leather nestle themselves among the spicy, saucy fruit. Fourteen months in American barrels have produced touches of melted caramel and white pepper. With well-integrated tannins and a rich and round finish, this wine will be a favorite for years to come.

Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points
